From the Daily Mail: The tenant living in the Virginia house at the center of New York Attorney General Letitia James’s federal indictment is a ‘fugitive’ from justice, the Daily Mail can exclusively reveal.
James has reportedly allowed her grandniece Nakia Thompson – along with Thompson’s three children – to live in the three-bedroom property in Norfolk since 2020.
Now, in an embarrassing twist for Donald Trump’s nemesis, Daily Mail has discovered that Thompson is officially listed as an ‘absconder’ who is being sought by authorities in North Carolina for failing to finish her probation.
‘Ms Thompson was sentenced to probation for misdemeanor convictions for assault and battery and trespassing, and has willfully avoided probation supervision,’ Keith Acree, communications director for the North Carolina Department of Corrections told Daily Mail.
‘An absconder is considered a fugitive,’ Acree added. ‘Thompson faces arrest if she is located in North Carolina.’ He said her crimes of assault and trespass are considered ‘non-extraditable’ due to their low level.

On the NCDC website is an appeal for information leading to Thompson’s whereabouts, along with a mugshot and an offender number – 0898340.
According to the indictment, James purchased the home in Norfolk on or about August 17, 2020. Soon after the purchase, her great-niece and family reportedly moved into the home.
When James purchased the property, she allegedly told her mortgage broker that she expected to use the house as a second home, which allowed her to get a lower interest rate on the mortgage. Instead, she used it as a “rental investment property, renting the property to a family,” the indictment states.
The Daily Mail refers to a report by the New York Times, who revealed on Saturday just how James’s great-niece came to be living in the house she purchased.
The Times wrote:
Five years ago, the door of a modest yellow house on a quiet stretch of avenue in Norfolk, Va., swung open to admit a young family looking for a peaceful life after years of turbulence in several cities.
The family, Nakia Thompson and her children, have lived at the address ever since, according to two people familiar with the home, and until this week, the plan for a more placid existence had largely gone as expected. Several times a year, the people said, a great-aunt who had purchased the house in 2020 with Ms. Thompson in mind would come for an extended stay.
This week, with the filing of court papers some 200 miles north, the plan came to an abrupt end. The great-aunt — Letitia James, the New York attorney general — was indicted by President Trump’s Justice Department. The yellow house, with its gabled roof and tidy lawn, was revealed to be at the heart of the case that Mr. Trump’s chosen prosecutor brought against Ms. James, one of the president’s most prominent adversaries.
However, Thompson was allegedly not paying rent on the property. The Times noted that, in June, Thompson testified to a grand jury in Norfolk that she had lived in the house for years and that she did not pay rent.
The Daily Mail shared details of Thompson’s criminal record:
Before moving to James’s home in 2020 – which the prosecutor had purchased for $109,000 – Thompson had a string of brushes with the law in Virginia and North Carolina, records show.
In 2005 she was placed on probation in Forsyth County, North Carolina, for simple assault, and the following year was handed a suspended sentence for two counts of assault against a government official, according to NCDC.
In 2011, she was given a suspended sentence for assault and battery and second-degree trespass, again by a court in Forsyth County.
This appears to have been the offense for which Thompson became an ‘absconder’.
