EXCUSES: Transgender track runner defeats female opponents, but claims shoes were the problem

Sadie Schreiner, a transgender track athlete for RIT, celebrated a weekend victory over female opponents on social media.

However, Schreiner also criticized the winning times, blaming faulty track spikes. Still, Schreiner dominated the race, winning the 200-meter event in 25.17 seconds, ahead of SUNY Brockport’s Lexi Rodriguez, who finished at 26.92 seconds.

Despite winning decisively, Schreiner said the times could have been better if it weren’t for the shoes, writing on Instagram: “Not the race I was looking for at all this week, my spikes nearly fell off on the turn, and with a poor start, my time wasn’t nearly what I wanted.”

Schreiner, a vocal advocate for transgender athletes in women’s sports, recently criticized the NCAA for not expanding opportunities. Competing in women’s events for several seasons, Schreiner earned All-American honors last year, placing third in the 200m and eighth in the 400m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The New Jersey native also won the 200m at the Atlantic Region Indoor Championships and placed ninth in the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
