President Trump’s first term transformed presidential online engagement, and now Elon Musk, calling himself “White House Tech Support,” is bringing a chronically online generation into Trump’s second term.

Trump uses Truth Social much like he did the old Twitter, posting policy updates and media critiques at all hours. The platform feels like his stream of consciousness, with loyal supporters rallying around his agenda. Meanwhile, Musk’s X account functions as a political debate forum, mixing memes, AI edits, and real-time DOGE updates. As a “special government employee,” Musk uses X to confirm or deny government actions, engaging directly with the public.

Musk’s 69,000 posts can be overwhelming, but amid a relentless news cycle on DOGE’s USAID investigation, he utilized X to confirm facts and debunk leftist misinformation. On Wednesday, he validated The Wall Street Journal’s report that DOGE is investigating the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, stating, “Yeah, this is where the big money fraud is happening.”

Musk invites his followers to engage in the Democratic process right through the app, as well as using X to bring transparency to what DOGE is up to, and why.

Two recent polls Musk posted include rehiring the DOGE employee who resigned and if DOGE should audit the IRS.
