Iran asserted on Wednesday that the U.S. presidential election outcome is irrelevant to its long-term plans, viewing no substantial difference between President-elect Trump and defeated Vice President Harris.
“The U.S. election does not affect us; both countries’ policies remain constant,” said regime spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani. “It doesn’t matter who becomes the president in the United States because all the necessary planning has been made in advance.”
Mohajerani stated that “over four decades of sanctions have toughened Iran,” so Trump’s re-election does not concern them, adding: “Basically, we do not see any difference between these two people. Sanctions have strengthened Iran’s internal power and we have the power to deal with new sanctions.”
Iranian officials often alternate between downplaying U.S. sanctions as ineffective, as Mohajerani did, and blaming them for Iran’s issues, according to a Breitbart News report. The country’s currency experienced a dip following the announcement of Trump’s win

Iran’s PressTV reported that Iranian social media derided both Trump and Harris as “war criminals” for their support of Israel against Iran-backed groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. Some Iranians condemned Trump for ordering the assassination of Gen. Qassem Soleimani in 2020, while others criticized Harris for allegedly endorsing “genocide” against Palestinians.
