From NY Post: Anna Wintour is stepping down as editor-in-chief of Vogue’s US edition after 37 years, a source close to the glossy fashion magazine’s owner Condé Nast confirmed to The Post.
Wintour, 75, announced that she is seeking a new “head of editorial content” for American Vogue during a staff meeting Thursday morning, according to a company spokesperson.
The longtime editrix, who took the helm of US Vogue in 1988, will hold onto her positions as Condé Nast’s global chief content officer and Vogue’s global editorial director. The new US role will report directly to Wintour.
“I find that my greatest pleasure is helping the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas, supported by a new, exciting view of what a major media company can be. And that is exactly the kind of person we need to now look for to be HOC for US Vogue,” Wintour told Vogue staff.
Wintour said she will continue “paying very close attention to the fashion industry and to the creative cultural force that is our extraordinary Met Ball, and charting the course of future Vogue Worlds, and any other original fearless ideas we may come up with.”
Wintour’s global role expanded over the years as she continued editing American Vogue. The new US Vogue editorial role will allow her to focus on global markets.
