1) Kamala Harris ally: We have to ‘reimagine’ democracy beyond Founders’ ‘little piece of paper’

From Fox News: Human Rights Campaign president Kelley Robinson urged people to “reimagine” freedom and democracy beyond the Founders’ “little piece of paper” at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) last week.

Robinson spoke on the third night of the DNC, but two days before, she was on a panel at the DNC’s LGBTQ+ Kickoff where she was asked how to “dramatically shift and build more power” for the LGBTQ community and other minorities.

“We can’t just worry about protecting democracy. In this moment, we’ve got to reimagine it with people that look and love like us at the center,” Robinson answered.

She continued, “And I think for us right now is about reimagining freedom and this American story in a way that is more revolutionary than what our Founders actually put down on that little piece of paper, but instead is the type of democracy that is by and for all of the people in this country. That’s the opportunity that we have.”

2) Democrats sue Georgia election board over changes passed by officials under investigation and possible removal

From Washington Examiner: Democrats sued the Georgia election board over changes passed by officials who are now under investigation. Three allies of former President Donald Trump on the State Election Board proposed new changes to state electoral law, allowing more stringent treatment of ballot counting and electoral certification. The three were hit by an ethics complaint from Fulton County’s former elections board chief, pushing the Democrats to argue that the ethics inquiry should be looked into before the new measures were passed. They also argued that the board members should be removed.

“These novel requirements introduce substantial uncertainty in the postelection process and — if interpreted as their drafters have suggested — invite chaos by establishing new processes at odds with existing statutory duties,” the lawsuit said about the proposed electoral changes.

The lawsuit was filed by the Democratic National Party, Georgia Democratic Party, local officials, and political candidates, with the support of Vice President Kamala Harris’s election campaign.

3) More Americans are thinking about postponing retirement

From Fox Business: A growing number of Americans are considering delaying their retirement plans and working longer than planned as they continue to battle high prices, according to a new survey published by LiveCareer.

More than 8 in 10 respondents said they have thought about postponing their retirement for financial reasons, while another 92% expressed concern that they will have to work longer than planned.

“Our survey reveals that financial stability is a primary concern among participants, with many fearing they won’t be able to afford to retire and keep up with the bare essentials like health care, or that they might become a financial burden to their loved ones,” said Jasmine Escalera, a career expert at LiveCareer.

Retirement elicits fear in many workers, according to the survey.

4) Vandalism found at Gettysburg battleground, preservationists remove traces of defacement: ‘Hallowed ground’

From Fox News: Two incidents of vandalism have reportedly taken place at Gettysburg National Park within one week.

On August 15, park officials reported that multiple boulders had been defaced with graffiti inscribed onto the faces of large stones on Little Round Top, the National Park Services (NPS) reported.

The second incident took place on August 19, when visitors of the historic site reported that graffiti had been spray-painted on the historic War Department Observation Tower.

“Our hearts sank when these two cases of vandalism were reported within days of each other,” Kristina Heister, park superintendent, shared in an NPS press release.

5) ‘No Whites Allowed’ Graffiti Appears in Britain’s Multicultural Birmingham

From Breitbart: Police in Birmingham have launched an investigation after three instances of apparently anti-white graffiti appeared in the multicultural British city.

The inner-city Birmingham neighbourhood of Alum Rock saw graffiti reading “no whites” and “no whites allowed” appear over the past week, the Daily Telegraph broadsheet reported.

The paper obtained CCTV footage appearing to show a man in a hoodie sweatshirt scrawling the message “no whites” on a wall outside of a primary school in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Two other locations were marked with a similar message, however, there is currently no indication that the same man was responsible.
