Allegations that Somalian refugee Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) once married her own brother in order to get him legal status in the United States won’t go away, no matter how many times she tries to brush the claims off as “baseless” and “unfounded.”

President Trump has raised attention to the issue multiple times recently, and declared that Omar should be deported.

The Daily Mail, who published a bombshell story in February 2020 with specific details and a copy of a marriage application, is now doubling down in a new report, and says President Trump’s comments are not as baseless as Omar claims.

The New York Post has also released a new report with additional details.

There appears to be no dispute that Omar DID marry a man named Ahmed Elmi in 2009.  The real issue is going to be whether it can be proved that he is, in fact, her brother. The Daily Mail says “because of a lack of paperwork in war-torn Somalia where they were both born, positive proof of their relationship has never been uncovered.”

But Donald Trump’s unsavory claim that the leftist US Representative married her own brother to skirt immigration rules is not as outlandish as she insists.

In fact, as a Daily Mail investigation revealed in 2020, the Minnesota Congresswoman admitted to doing exactly that, according to a close confidante.

Somali community leader Abdihakim Osman Nur was the first person to go on record to the Daily Mail in 2020 to confirm that Omar, 43, vowed to get Ahmed Elmi, 40 – the man she allegedly called her sibling – papers so he could stay in the US.

A wedding seemed out of the question as the budding politician was still married to her first husband Ahmed Hirsi, 45, the father of her three kids. But that’s exactly what happened according to paperwork from their 2009 nuptials in Eden Prairie, an upscale Minneapolis suburb.

‘No one knew there had been a wedding until the media turned up the marriage certificate years later,’ Osman told the Daily Mail.

Omar has dismissed suggestions that Elmi was her brother as a ‘baseless’ rumor fueled by Islamophobia. But Trump refuses to drop it.

According to the Daily Mail, Ilhan Omar first married Ahmed Hirsi in 2002 in a Muslim ceremony, but that marriage was not registered with the state government.  They had two children together.

Then, in February 2009, she quietly married Ahmed Elmi in a civil ceremony by a Christian minister, but allegedly, never separated from Hirsi. The legal union would have provided a pathway for Elmi to obtain a green card.

Osman, who spoke to the Daily Mail in 2020, described Elmi as “very feminine” in the way he dressed, and said that Hirsi and Ilhan “both told me it was Ilhan’s brother and he had been living in London but he was mixing with what were seen as bad influences that the family did not like. So they sent him to Minneapolis as ‘rehab.”’

Osman claimed that when Elmi arrived, Omar introduced him to members of the community as her brother from London, and said he needed “papers,” a reference to immigration documents.

As soon as Omar and Elmi married, he *allegedly* applied for student loans and started attending college in North Dakota, graduating in 2012. He returned to Minneapolis for a while, then went back to the United Kingdom in 2013.

Omar and Hirsi, who allegedly had never separated, had their third child together in 2012. In 2013, Omar legally divorced Elmi, and then legally married Hirsi in 2018 in a civil ceremony.  The couple separated in 2019, and she then married Tim Mynett, who converted to Islam, in March 2020.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ELMI? The New York Post just released a new report on Thursday, December 11 with the latest details:

Mystery has long swirled about the embattled Minnesota congresswoman’s marriage to Ahmed Elmi, to whom she was wed between 2009 and 2017, which various politicians on the right have called a sham.

Elmi, 40, left the US long before he officially divorced Omar and seemingly disappeared. However, The Post can now reveal he’s been studying in the UK and South Africa.

The one-time refugee describes himself as a “dirty dandy” on his social media profiles, where he posts photos of himself wearing garish fashions and having drinks alongside handsome men at upscale London cafes.

Since the early 2020s, he’s studied at Bristol University in the UK, receiving his doctorate and then becoming a research assistant at the university’s School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies, where his areas of study are listed as “critically queer,” “decolonization,” “gender research group,” and “center for black humanities.”

The New York Post shared a link to Elmi’s Instagram page, but the account appears to now be made private, so only followers can view it.  The Post shared multiple photos from the Instagram account in their report. He recently shared photos of himself on an extended trip to Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Trump administration seized on the report by the Daily Mail on Wednesday.
