DESANTIS CRACKDOWN: Florida to target teachers for ‘vile behavior’ related to Charlie Kirk assassination

3

From Fox News: The Florida Department of Education plans to investigate any teachers in the state who engage in “vile, sanctionable behavior” related to the assassination Wednesday of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

“It has been brought to my attention that some Florida educators have posted despicable comments on social media regarding the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk,” Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas wrote in a memo sent out to state school superintendents and shared with Fox News Digital.

“These few are not a reflection of the great, high-quality teachers who make up the vast majority of Florida’s educators. Nevertheless, I will be conducting an investigation of every educator who engages in this vile, sanctionable behavior.”

The memo came after a teacher in Clay County was reportedly suspended for allegedly sharing a post on social media that said, “This may not be the obituary we were all hoping to wake up to, but this is a close second for me,” according to Florida’s Voice.

“Teachers are held to a higher standard as public servants and must ensure their conduct does not undermine the trust of the students and families they serve. We will hold teachers who choose to make disgusting comments about the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk accountable. Govern yourselves accordingly,” Kamoutsas wrote.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis added, “Celebrating the assassination of a 31 year old father of two young kids is disturbing; that teachers would be among those who do so is completely unacceptable. Glad @StasiKamoutsas is bringing accountability. It is sad that we’ve seen a number of teachers across America celebrate Charlie Kirk’s murder.”

Screenshots of multiple hateful posts about Kirk’s death from Florida educators are being exposed on social media.

X user @RealBookerScott exposed one hateful post:

Meet THE Matt Theobald. He is the president of the Martin County School Education Association in Florida. He is vile human but wants to be famous. @thematttheobald he even uses THE in his X handle. Cute. MAKE HIM FAMOUS!!

Theobald had written about Charlie Kirk, “The man created Turning Point USA, which is literally the equivalent of a modern-day Hitler Youth Organization, and people are mourning him like he’s some sort of a folk hero. I just don’t get it…. apparently it’s tragic when their guy gets killed, but it was completely ok for that same guy to threaten my life and the lives of my family members just because we don’t share his political ideology?!?!”

Theobald offers NO PROOF that Charlie Kirk EVER threatened his life or anyone else’s life.

He then proceeded to claim that Kirk was “a racist, misogynistic, fear-mongering neo-nazi who used religion to justify all of the evil things he [has] said and done.”

Theobald is President of the Martin County School Education Association in Florida, and teaches history and politics.

X user Paige Eubank also posted a screenshot of Theobald’s file comments, and wrote, “This dirtbag is my daughter’s former history, teacher at a high school here in Stuart, Florida. Matt Theobald.”

The Martin County School District released the following statement:

We are aware of recent social media comments made by one of our educators regarding the death of Charlie Kirk.

In accordance with the directive issued by Commissioner @StasiKamoutsas of @EducationFL, the District is conducting a thorough review consistent with statutory and professional standards. The employee has been removed from instructional duties while this process is underway.

Our priority remains ensuring that @MCSDFlorida classrooms are safe, respectful, and focused on student learning. We will continue to work closely with the Florida Department of Education and follow all applicable guidelines in this matter.

X user @mplpodcast305 shared the following:

Miami-Dade teacher, Maribel Pizarro Suarez made a series of posts following Charlie Kirk’s death on facebook, which say that those marginalized by “hateful public figures” have every right to smile at one less hater in the world. And “If only you could have done something about better gun control, if only. Oh, well … thoughts & prayers #FAFO.”

What a repulsive and vile human being. She teaches at Palmetto Senior High and has no business being around children.
