Democrats are fiercely defending Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a flurry of social media posts, after he got himself kicked out of the Oval Office around noon Friday.

Zelenskyy had come to the White House and was expected to sign an agreement that would give the U.S. access to Ukraine’s critical minerals supply, to help repay the U.S. for providing financial support. Instead, he became confrontational and disrespectful to both President Trump and Vice President JD Vance, and ended up being asked to leave.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer claimed, “Trump and Vance are doing Putin’s dirty work. Senate Democrats will never stop fighting for freedom and democracy.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.): “Donald Trump is treating the destruction of a democracy as a political show — throwing Ukraine to the wolves and doing a favor for Putin. It’s shameful and dangerous. I’ve been to Ukraine, as have many Senate Republicans. I hope they speak up. Millions of lives are at stake.”

Sen. Adam Schiff claimed, “A hero and a coward are meeting in the Oval Office today. And when the meeting is over, the hero will return home to Ukraine.”

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) wrote: “Answer to Vance: Zelenskyy has thanked our country over and over again both privately and publicly. And our country thanks HIM and the Ukrainian patriots who have stood up to a dictator, buried their own & stopped Putin from marching right into the rest of Europe. Shame on you.”

Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) wrote: “Trump berates Zelensky, the leader of a democratic country courageously fighting Russian imperialism, while he allies himself with Putin, a dictator who started the bloodiest European war in 80 years. Sorry, President Trump. We believe in democracy, not authoritarianism.”

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) wrote, “Absolute admiration for President Zelenskyy. The guy has balls. He went into the Oval Office and stood up to Russia’s best negotiators.”

“They just turned the Oval Office into the Evil Office,” claimed Rep. Jamie Rskin (D-MD).

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) went on an unhinged rant as he blasted President Trump, and claimed Zelenskyy was “ambushed.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi fumed:

It would’ve been a show of strength for the President of the United States to bring the elected leader of Ukraine to the Oval Office and engage with him in a dignified way.

But you would never know that after President Trump’s shameful display. Putin must be overjoyed with today’s theatrics.

Following the U.S. vote in alignment with Russia at the United Nations this week, a disturbing pattern has emerged that is contrary to America’s longstanding support of democracy around the world.

Progressive Dem. Rep. Pamila Jayapal: “It is horrifying and stunning to see this administration is standing with dictators over our own allies. We should be standing up for peace, freedom, and security worldwide. I am deeply concerned about what today’s meeting in the Oval Office means for the people of Ukraine, and I will continue to stand with our allies.”

Somalian refugee Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) sneered, “This is embarrassing.”

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) sneered, “Ukraine is our ally. Putin is not. It’s not complicated. I’m proud to be governor of the state with the largest Ukrainian population in America. This president may not stand with democracy, but we will.”

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) wrote, “President Trump’s simpering fealty to Vladimir Putin and Russia is embarrassing and dangerous. Illinois stands with Ukraine, and so should the White House.”

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) released a statement, slamming President Trump over the spat with Zelenskyy:

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.): “Generations of American patriots, from our revolution onward, have fought for the principles Zelenskyy is risking his life to defend. But today, Donald Trump and JD Vance attacked Zelenskyy and pressured him to surrender the freedom of his people to the KGB war criminal who invaded Ukraine. History will remember this day— when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for.”

Meanwhile, conservatives are posting reminders of the time when Zelenskyy went to Pennsylvania and campaigned with Democrats.
