As of Saturday afternoon, authorities in Texas have confirmed that at least 32 people are dead from the devastating flash flooding that swept through communities in Kerr County around 4 a.m. Friday morning.

Of the 32 confirmed dead, 18 were adults and 14 were children. At least 3 of those killed were children from a Christian camp for girls, called Camp Mystic, that was located along the Guadalupe River. The river reportedly rose nearly 30 feet in a 45-minute period, while everyone was sleeping.

About 750 girls were attending the camp when the flood occurred, and at least 27 young girls from the camp are still missing.

The President and First Lady have shared their prayers and condolences on social media.

President Donald Trump wrote, “The Trump Administration is working with State and Local Officials on the ground in Texas in response to the tragic flooding that took place yesterday. Our Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, will be there shortly.

“Melania and I are praying for all of the families impacted by this horrible tragedy. Our Brave First Responders are on site doing what they do best. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS TEXAS!”

First Lady Melania Trump separately posted on X, “My heart goes out to the parents in Texas during this difficult time. I am holding you in my thoughts and sending prayers for strength, comfort, and resilience.”

Vice President JD Vance also shared a message of comfort and condolences. He wrote:

Our nation’s heart breaks for the victims in Texas and their families. Just an incomprehensible tragedy. I hope everyone affected knows they’re in the prayers of my family, and of millions of Americans.

***Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.***

The National Fraternal Order of Police posted the following statement:

A wall of water tore through Camp Mystic in the dark. Some of the girls have already been found—too late. Others are still missing. Families are living a nightmare. And first responders are out there—searching trees, dragging rivers, working through exhaustion—because they refuse to leave anyone behind.

This is the kind of call that haunts you. And it’s the kind of call that reminds us why we do what we do. To the families: we are standing with you. To every first responder on the ground in Texas: we see you. We honor you. And we’re holding the line with you—from across the country.

Former HUD Director Dr. Ben Carson wrote, “My heart breaks for the families and community impacted by the tragic flooding in the Texas Hill Country, especially for the lives of the young girls from Camp Mystic that were lost far too soon.

“To those mourning, know that you are being lifted up in prayer. May God’s peace, which surpasses all understanding, bring you comfort and strength in the days ahead.”

Evangelical leader Franklin Graham wrote on Friday, “Join me in praying for those affected by devastating flash flooding in TX today. More than a dozen people are reported dead & some 20 children who were at a Christian camp are missing. Heavy rain caused the Guadalupe River to rise nearly 30 ft. in 45 minutes. Pray for those who have lost or missing loved ones & for first responders & rescue teams working to save lives.”

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.) shared two aerial photos and wrote, “After a helicopter tour, more to follow, but two images – 1) the damage to Camp Mystic and 2) the damage to the iconic Hunt Store (zoom in). We continue to work and pray here in Kerrville.”

In one miraculous story of survival, Roy shared an account about a little girl found floating on a mattress.

Former Vice President Mike Pence wrote, “Our heartfelt prayers are with all the families and communities who suffered loss in the catastrophic flooding in the Texas Hill Country, especially the precious families of the young girls from Camp Mystic. The Bible tells us “the Lord is close to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18) and that will be our prayer for all these Families and our First Responders. God Bless Texas.🙏💔.”
