Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is considering attorney and Trump surrogate Mehek Cooke to fill JD Vance’s Senate seat after he becomes Vice President, Fox News Digital reports.

Cooke, a prominent Ohio fundraiser and vocal Trump supporter during the 2024 campaign, is seen as a strong contender. Trump’s endorsement holds significant influence in the state. Ohio law requires DeWine to appoint a Republican to fill JD Vance’s Senate seat until a special election in November 2026 decides who completes the term ending in 2028.

Cooke, a former Ohio House candidate and assistant chief counsel in the governor’s office, was born in India and immigrated to the U.S. at age 5. Cooke has handled criminal cases in the U.S. Attorney’s Office and leads American Frontier Strategies as a political consultant.

Marty Savko, chair of Columbus-based Savko & Sons, praised Mehek Cooke to Fox News Digital as someone who “is totally 100% in touch with both the average man and wife” in Ohio.

“She’s a proud American citizen, she’s proud of this country and she very much has a kind heart and realizes that not everyone has the same opportunities. She is a firm believer in what’s right and what’s wrong, and you know where she stands,” said Savko. “She’s not part of a clique like some people get to Washington or even get in the state house here in Ohio, and they become part of a clique, and they vote with the clique. No, she’s a person of her own determination and what she feels is the best for everyone involved, and she’s honest, extremely honest, extremely forthright.”
