For the first time in over a decade, Democratic Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown has lost the support of the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), as reported by the New York Post.

The FOP cited a controversial tweet Brown made in 2021 regarding the police shooting of 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant in Columbus. Brown’s critical comments, linked to broader issues of police violence during the Derek Chauvin trial, were a significant factor in the FOP’s decision to withdraw their endorsement.

Mike Weinman, an FOP spokesman, noted that Brown’s immediate reaction to the incident disappointed many members.

“It came down to a tweet,” Weinman said, New York Post reported. “There was a shooting here, and Sherrod, instead of taking time to listen and talk to us and understand the situation, did what all these people do now and got on his phone. Brown made a comment. It’s a shame.”
