Former Vice President Kamala Harris blasted President Trump on The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart for building a White House ballroom amid the government shutdown.
She accused him of ignoring the looming Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding freeze, even though it was Democrats who voted for the shutdown and blocked efforts to reopen the government. SNAP supports over 40 million Americans and faces cuts unless Congress intervenes.
“Are you fucking kidding me? This guy wants to create a ballroom for his rich friends while completely turning a blind eye to the fact that babies are going to starve when the SNAP benefits end in just hours from now!” Harris exclaimed. “Come on!”
“I’m not going to be distracted by, ‘Oh, does the guy have a big fucking hammer!?’ What about those babies?!” she added.
The shutdown began Oct. 1 after Sen. Chuck Schumer led Democrats in blocking a bipartisan funding bill. With SNAP benefits set to end Nov. 1 if the impasse continues, Democrats have vowed not to support any funding deal that omits Obamacare subsidies or other key priorities.
Democrats, left-wing activists, and corporate media erupted over the East Wing’s demolition to make way for the new White House ballroom. Figures like Hillary Clinton, Gavin Newsom, and Karine Jean-Pierre shared photos of the construction to accuse President Trump of abusing his power—despite similar renovations in the White House under past presidents.
