From Fox News: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests since President Donald Trump took office are already outpacing arrests made in all of 2024, the agency said Wednesday — while saying the Biden administration had been “cooking the books” on its numbers.
“We have uncovered that the previous administration… was cooking the books on ICE data,” acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told reporters. “They were purposely misleading the American people by categorizing individuals processed and released into the interior of the United States as ICE arrests.”
“A comprehensive review was done internally here with ICE. We found tens of thousands of cases that were recorded as arrests when, in fact, these instances were illegal aliens that were simply processed and released into the American communities,” he said.
Senior officials said that the majority of the overall 113,431 arrests made in FY 2024 were “pass-through” arrests, meaning that ICE didn’t take an enforcement action against those foreign nationals, and they instead just passed through ICE before being released into the interior and were told to report to an ICE office.
According to the Trump administration, the actual interior arrests by ICE for FY 2024 (under the Biden administration) were 33,242, which was just 29% of the total the Biden administration had reported.
In comparison, the Trump administration’s ICE has made 32,809 arrests just from January 20 to March 10. Those include the following:
- 14,111 were convicted criminals
- 9,980 have pending criminal charges
- Over 1,150 were suspected gang members
“We are empowering [ICE agents] to do their jobs,” Lyons told reporters. “After four years of not being allowed to effectively do their jobs, our agents and officers are excited to get to work and fulfill the agency’s mission.”
Lyons said none of the ICE arrests under the Trump admin are “pass through arrests,” and ICE is now doing “actual immigration enforcement, not enforcement theater.”

President Trump addressed the report while speaking to reporters in the oval Office Thursday afternoon, saying, “On the southern border, you’ve got DHS and ICE who are reporting that there was a little bit of fudging of numbers during the Biden administration on both the catch and release side…”
“I knew they were fake. Everybody knew they were fake… That administration was a horror show,” Trump declared.

In a Fox News interview, Ron Vitiello, Senior Advisor to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said, “The Biden administration was never honest… about what was happening on the border. They had fake solutions… fake descriptions… fake border czar, and fake numbers.”

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has stopped the invasion, and the numbers of illegal aliens coming up through Panama’s Darien Gap has plummeted from 37,166 in February 2024 to only 408 in February 2025.
