On July 3, 2024, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the assassination of Muhammad Neamah Naser, a senior commander of Hezbollah’s Aziz Unit, in an airstrike in southern Lebanon. Naser had been responsible for orchestrating rocket and anti-tank missile attacks from Lebanon targeting Israeli civilians, communities, and security forces.

His death provoked a swift retaliation from Hezbollah, which fired over 100 rockets into northern Israel, hitting areas including Kiryat Shmona, the Galilee Panhandle, and the Golan Heights. In response, the IDF launched strikes on three Hezbollah rocket launchers in southern Lebanon. These exchanges have significantly heightened tensions in the region, raising concerns about a potential further escalation of violence.

Diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate the situation, but the conflict remains volatile, with both sides on high alert for possible future confrontations.
