FROM DAILY MAIL: Ghislaine Maxwell, longtime companion of pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein, was grilled about former President Bill Clinton and his family during her controversial two-day interrogation by the Department of Justice last month, a source tells the Daily Mail.
Clinton, 78, has long maintained that he was no more than an occasional acquaintance of the millionaire sex offender.
But speaking to government officials in Tallahassee, Florida, last month, Maxwell – who is serving a 20-year sentence for assisting Epstein with his campaign of abuse – contradicted that claim and stated that she, Epstein and Clinton knew each other well, according to a source familiar with the conversation.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche interviewed Maxwell privately. She told him she had become friends with Clinton and traveled around the world with him.
The Mail notes that Clinton “has always denied any knowledge of the ‘terrible crimes’ committed by Epstein,” even as it appears he made “no fewer than 26 trips on Epstein’s private jet known as the Lolita Express.”
These discrepancies have kept Cinton linked to speculation about his connections to, and involvement with, Epstein’s criminal activities. Maxwell’s recent reevaluations do nothing to absolve Clinton as they cast doubt on his assertions.
The Daily Mail says they “reached out to a representative for Clinton but did not receive a comment.”
Meanwhile Maxwell’s nine hours interview did reveal that President Donald J. Trump never did anything in her presence that would have caused concern, according to sources familiar with what Maxwell said, according to ABC News.
The Trump administration, meanwhile, is considering publicly releasing the transcripts from the interview, multiple sources familiar with the internal discussions told ABC News.
Maxwell’s lawyer, David Markus, said Blanche asked Maxwell about “one hundred different people,” and that “she didn’t hold anything back.”
The Department of Justice has not yet decided whether it will release the transcript of an interview.
KOMO reports:
Former U.S. Attorney John Fishwick told The National News Desk that it would likely be in the DOJ’s best interest to be as transparent as possible.
“She obviously wants to get her sentence reduced, maybe even to get a pardon or a commutation from President Trump. So she’s got a motivation….I think it should be released. Let us all evaluate whether we think she’s telling the truth,” he said.
House Republicans have issued subpoenas to the Justice Department for Epstein-related files, as well as to prominent figures, including former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton. Notably, Trump’s name was absent from the list.
