From Fox News: Former President Trump is floating names to fill top positions in his Cabinet should he win a second term in November.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and Gov. Doug Burgum, R-N.D., two of Trump’s former top candidates for vice president, are reportedly both being considered for secretary of state, Trump sources told Axios. Burgum was also noted as a potential contender for energy secretary.
According to the report, Sens. Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., and Tom Cotton, R-Ark., are also in the running for secretary of state.
Several other people close to Trump are reportedly being considered for positions in a potential Cabinet.
Axios, who released their report based on anonymous “Trump sources,” claimed that “Trump is focused on campaigning, and paying little attention to the fight to staff a prospective second administration.”
Axios also claimed, “The top of a second Trump administration would be mainly white, male, populist and loyal, based on preliminary lists of likely Cabinet members and top staff, the sources said.”
Other names highlighted in the report for likely top spots in a potential Trump administration include the following, according to Axios. (Note: Some names are mentioned as people vying for a certain position, while others are mentioned as suggestions.)
- White House chief of staff: Susie Wiles, or former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy
- Potential West Wing job: Chris LaCivita, current co-manager with Wiles
- Senior advisor: Stephen Miller
- Treasury secretary: Hedge-fund manager Scott Bessent, or JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon
- National Security Advisor: Ric Grenell, former ambassador to Germany and Trump’s acting director of national intelligence.
- Commerce Secretary: Linda McMahon, Ray Washburne, Sen. Marco Rubio, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy or Sen. Tim Scott
- Energy Secretary: Backup slot for Gov. Doug Burgum
- CIA Director: John Ratcliffe, Trump’s former director of national intelligence
🥊 @axios 1 big thing: The battle for Trump power@JimVandeHei and I are told Trump is paying little attention to staffing a second administration, but top Republicans are already lobbying hard for specific slots.https://t.co/P6AyvTlyDf
