CLAIM: Donald Trump allegedly ordered army chiefs to ‘draw up plan to invade Greenland’

From Daily Mail:

Donald Trump has ordered his special forces commanders to draw up a plan for the invasion of Greenland – but is being resisted by senior military figures, The Mail on Sunday has learned.

Sources say that the policy ‘hawks’ around the US President, led by political adviser Stephen Miller, have been so emboldened by the success of the operation to capture Venezuela’s leader Nicolas Maduro that they want to move quickly to seize the island before Russia or China makes a move.

According to the sources, the President has asked the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to prepare the invasion plan, but it is being resisted by the joint chiefs of staff on the grounds that it would be illegal – and would not be supported by Congress.

“They have tried to distract Trump by talking about less controversial measures, such as intercepting Russian ‘ghost’ ships – a clandestine network of hundreds of vessels operated by Moscow to evade Western sanctions – or launching a strike on Iran,” one source claimed.

One diplomatic cable alleged that some “European officials suspect this is the real aim of the hardline MAGA faction around Trump. Since Congress would not allow Trump to exit Nato, occupying Greenland could force the Europeans to abandon Nato. If Trump wants to end Nato, this might be the most convenient way to do it.”

The reports have sparked panic on social media. One user wrote, “Allies aren’t panicking for no reason.” Another worried, “Americans will be hated.”

According to Peter Mandelson with The Spectator, Trump has no need to “invade” Greenland.

“Europe’s growing geopolitical impotence in the world is becoming the issue now, and histrionics about Greenland is confirming this brutal reality,” Mandelson, a former British ambassador to Washington, wrote. “The future of Greenland is being misunderstood.

“Trump is not going to ‘invade’ it. He doesn’t need to. He’s already there.

“What will happen is that the threats to Arctic security posed by China and Russia will crystallize in European minds, performative statements about ‘sovereignty’ and NATO’s future will fade, and serious discussion will take over.

“Together, the US, Denmark and other allies will address how the Arctic region is properly secured with a considerably beefed-up role and status and military deployment by America.”
