FROM NY Post: The San Jose Sharks have apologized for displaying a message on the Jumbotron appearing to praise Immigration and Customs Enforcement during the team’s Hispanic heritage night.
“SJ SHARKS FANS LOVE ICE !! GET’EM BOYZ !” the message read during the first intermission of the team’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the SAP Center in San Jose Saturday night.
The post immediately sparked outrage from those in attendance — many heard booing in response — as the Sharks were holding their ninth annual celebration of Hispanic heritage on what they call “Los Tiburones Night.”
Tthe Sharks quickly issued an apology.
“During the first intermission of tonight’s game, an offensively worded message which had been externally submitted was inadvertently displayed on the in-arena scoreboard,” the NHL team posted on X .
“Sharks Sports & Entertainment deeply regrets that this message, which does not meet our organization’s values, was not detected during our standard review process. The Sharks organization sincerely apologizes for this oversight, and we are actively working to determine the origin of the message.”

Even with the apology, some fans were disappointed in the team.
“On Los Tiburones night too, sheesh. Tough look,” a user said in response to the apology.
“No one vets these messages?” another asked.

But some X users found nothing wrong with the message, leading to a new group of offended fans.
“Nothing remotely offensive about that message,” said one.
“So the Sharks are in favor of illegal immigration? Is that what I’m gathering?” another chimed in.
“Why is supporting law enforcement offensive,” a third user asked.
Another wrote, “Wow the only thing remotely redeeming about the game and you apologize for it. Figures.”
A fifth noted, “What’s offensive? The country overwhelmingly voted for deportations! Go ICE go!!”
A other user wrote angrily, “Wow. What a joke you are. So A) your sport is on ICE B) You’re apologizing because someone mentioned ice at a HOCKEY GAME?? because it might be connected to saving our country???? Disgusting.”

Others agreed that NO ONE should be offended after the message mentioned ice at a hockey game.
“There’s a whole sheet of ice at Sharks games. What’s the issue exactly?” one asked.
“They were obviously talking about the ice that Sharks players skate on,” wrote another user. “Or vanilla ice Ice ice baby.”
And a third summed it up, saying, “ I’m sorry I don’t see anything offensive here. ICE hockey is played on ICE right? The one perpetually offended person who probably doesn’t like hockey complain Don’t be wimps @SanJoseSharks be the Sharks!”
