Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes announced Wednesday that he will not endorse any candidate in the upcoming election. Instead, he will focus on leading his team to a third consecutive Super Bowl win, a historic feat no NFL team has achieved.

Mahomes faces political tension in his personal life. His wife, Brittany, was praised by former President Trump during a Fox News interview. This came after Taylor Swift, girlfriend of Mahomes’ close friend and teammate Travis Kelce, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump remarked he “liked” Brittany Mahomes more than Swift.

“I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better if you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan,” Trump said on “Fox & Friends.” “I like Brittany. I think Brittany’s great.”

During a press conference Wednesday, Patrick Mahomes was asked about former President Trump’s comments as the Chiefs prepare to face the Bengals. He responded by praising his wife’s support for free expression and allowing people to voice their opinions, stating:

“I think you see Brittany does a lot in the community. I do a lot in the community to help bring people up and give people an opportunity to use their voice. In political times, people are going to use stuff here and there, but I can’t let that affect how I go about my business every single day of my life and trying to live it to the best of my ability. At the end of the day, it’s about me and my family and how we treat other people.”

Brittany Mahomes has recently found herself at the center of an online debate after liking former President Trump’s 2024 policy platform on Instagram on August 13. The “like” quickly spread across social media, sparking backlash so intense that the expectant mother felt the need to defend herself publicly. She later liked a comment reading “TRUMP-VANCE 2024” on one of her posts.

Several online Taylor Swift fan pages contributed to making Brittany’s actions go viral. Swift, a long-time supporter of Democratic candidates, first endorsed Democratic candidates in 2018, including Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper, and backed Joe Biden in 2020. Her recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris carries even more weight due to her rise in popularity following her Eras Tour and her relationship with Kelce.
