Vice President JD Vance has been following up on the condition of a police officer who was seriously injured while working in his motorcade last Friday.

Officer Justin Brown remains in “critical but stable” condition and is showing small improvements as doctors determine the next steps in his treatment, according to Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp. He added that Vice President Vance contacted the department the night of the crash and has continued checking in on Brown’s condition, hoping to speak with him once he’s well enough.

“We know that this community cares deeply about how he is doing. We are encouraged with the progress he makes each day. He is alert, talking, and is in good spirits,” Crisp said.

The police chief said anyone wishing to support Brown and his family can donate through the Blue Line Tennessee, Inc. GoFundMe. He emphasized that all legitimate fundraising efforts for Brown will be conducted solely through Blue Line Tennessee, with the department’s approval.

“If you see any other fundraisers, links, pages, or posts circulating online or in the community, please contact the Maryville Police Department immediately, so we can ensure the safety and accuracy of information being shared,” MPD said.
