CANDIDATE WATCH: Former Navy SEAL mounts Senate bid to ‘crush the woke agenda’ as Tuberville seeks governorship

From Fox News: Former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson is running for the U.S. Senate, as Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., seeks the governorship in the Yellowhammer State.

Tuberville, who has served in the U.S. Senate since early 2021, announced a gubernatorial bid this week, leaving Alabama’s 2026 U.S. Senate race wide open since there will not be an incumbent in that contest.

“President Trump needs fighters, not career politicians. I’m a former Navy SEAL, not a swamp insider — and I’m running for U.S. Senate in Alabama to help secure the border, crush the woke agenda, and defend our Christian values,” Hudson noted in a post on X.

In his announcement, Hudson shared a link to his campaign website: https://hudsonforalabama.com/.

A description on his X profile reads: “Christian. Husband. Father. Former U.S. Navy SEAL. Running for U.S. Senate to fight for Alabama and be a warrior for President Trump’s America First Agenda.”

Hudson and his wife, Lauren, have three children and live in Birmingham. He ran for sheriff in 2022 and got 48% of the vote, but ultimately lost to Sheriff Mark Pettway. More from AL.com:

Hudson is a graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School. Following graduation, Hudson completed fire college and became a firefighter but said he felt led to join the military.

He served as a SEAL operator with Naval Special Warfare and was deployed multiple times to combat zones including Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Foal Eagle.

He served one year as a deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and worked as a reserve deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

He also worked as an investigator with a prosecutor’s office in Indiana and is certified with the Alabama Peace Officer Standard Training Commission.

A statement on Hudson’s campaign website reads:

Hudson also released a video on Thursday, and confirmed that he is not a career politician.

“Alabama deserves a warrior in Washington,” he declared.

Democrat Kyle Sweetser announced Tuesday that he is also running for Tuberville’s senate seat.

Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ), also a former Navy SEAL, shared Hudson’s announcement and wrote, “Really glad to see men like Jared jumping into one of the toughest fights on earth. I served with Jared at Team 3. He is a very good man, who loves the Lord and his family.”
