The head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), who publicly praised Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, outlined a plan to help elect 40-50 members to Congress in a recent sermon, according to MEMRI.
CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad described this as the “next phase” of using professional resources to systematically educate the public about Islam, recommending a “scientific approach.”
“If we commit to do this, four years from now, the Muslim community will have 4,000 new journalists, we will have 4,000 filmmakers, 4,000 lawyers, 4,000 students of political science, 4,000 students of history,” said Awad, according to a Daily Wire report.
Awad predicted that in 15 years, 50,000 people would be working in key fields, with many likely running for office. He added, “In ten years, we can have at least 40-50 members in the U.S. Congress.”

In an August 30th sermon at the East Plano Islamic Center, CAIR’s Nihad Awad said they have been fighting Islamophobia, which is “deeply rooted” in American culture, academia, and Hollywood. He noted that for centuries, Islam and the Prophet were defamed in public school textbooks, but CAIR has been working to change that. Awad emphasized it’s time for the affluent, educated Muslim community to move to the next phase of progress.
CAIR, founded in 1994 and positioned as a leading American Muslim civil rights organization, faced backlash after the October 7 Hamas attack on Israeli civilians. Following remarks by CAIR’s Nihad Awad, in which he expressed support for Gazans and denied Israel’s right to self-defense, the Biden administration distanced itself. The White House condemned Awad’s comments and removed CAIR from its list of partners in the National Strategy to Counter Anti-Semitism.
