Biden world is unloading on former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre after she announced that she was leaving the Democratic Party and writing a book about her decision, according to Politico.

Jean-Pierre’s publisher announced her new book, “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines” for publication in October 2025, adding that the former press secretary had decided to change her party affiliation to Independent. The book also plans to detail a “broken” Biden White House and how the former president faced “betrayal” by the Democratic Party. Former White House colleagues of Jean-Pierre’s reacted to the news, telling Politico that it is a “grift” as group chats lit up and frustration boiled over.

“She made a joke about being an independent last year and now it’s a book. All ideas are monetary — even the dumb ones,” one of the former staffers told Politico. The joke that Jean-Pierre made about switching parties came off as an “off-key comment” for someone who was serving as a “major messenger for the Democratic Party,” the outlet reported.

According to the report, before the Biden administration was over, Jean-Pierre had begun working on the book project with a a publicist. Politico reports that she’d been he copying the publicist on official emails, prompting White House staff to intervene.

Apparently, she had been aiming to land a job as a co-host on The View, but she didn’t get the gig, two former officials told Politico. Those officials believe Jean-Pierre was miffed, leading her to write the book.

“Everyone thinks this is a grift,” one former official said.

Jean-Pierre said she’s leaving the Democratic Party to follow he own “compass” in “an era of misinformation, disinformation, the regressiveness of social policy.”

Since the former White House messenger spent her time at the podium defending Biden’s policies and health, her departure from the party is even more offensive considering Biden’s recent health revelations, the mainstream media’s acknowledgement of his mental decline, and the lingering questions being raised about whether he was really in charge during his administration.

“SHE was the public face telling us all that this White House was on track and that Biden was amazing. And now she doesn’t even want to be a Democrat????” one incredulous former Biden White House official told Politico. “She’s making herself the middle ground here when Republicans hate her. She’s not in any position to be a connector of our two party system and assuming she could be is just ego.”

On X, one user called the decision, “A wildly craven and cowardly move.“

Scott Jennings slammed KJP, congratulating Democrats for ridding themselves of her.

“I’d like to congratulate Democrats for ridding yourselves of this untalented mediocrity,“ he said.

Another user called her “the Baghdad Bob of the Biden administration,” a reference to Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, the Information Minister of Iraq under Saddam Hussein who dishonestly refused to acknowledge the taking of Baghdad by the US military.

Some people seem to be supportive of KJP. One user wrote on X, “Karine Jean-Pierre isn’t leaving the Democratic Party over policy. She’s leaving because they treated President Biden like shit. If they keep up the Biden bashing they’ll lose even more of us.

Another user said, “Karine Jean-Pierre is speaking for a lot of black women. You can call her newly declared political status a stunt but it’s not. The 92% said they were centering themselves & declaring oneself free from a party that wants to chase white men is a start.”
