Amid an onslaught of attacks on Israel by Iran and Hezbollah, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad posted a serious warning on social media Wednesday afternoon, saying the terrorist militias aligned with Iran may be planning to target critical infrasture in Iraq, including hotels used by Americans.

Update:
Iran and the terrorist militias allied with it may be planning to target U.S.-owned oil and energy infrastructure in Iraq. Additionally, Iran-aligned terrorist militias have targeted hotels frequented by Americans in various parts of Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Nothing is a higher priority than the safety of American citizens for President Trump, Secretary of State Rubio, and the U.S. Department of State. The U.S. government continues to assess additional options to assist American citizens in departing the Middle East. Any options for departing Iraq will be shared with American citizens who wish to depart.
Iran and the allied terrorist militia groups continue to pose a serious threat to public safety. American citizens are urged to exercise extreme caution, maintain a low profile, and avoid areas that could make them a target. Gathering in places associated with the United States or with groups of other American citizens may put you at risk. Attacks against American citizens and interests in Iraq have occurred, and Americans face a risk of kidnapping.
American companies, hotels frequented by foreigners, and other facilities in Iraq, including those associated with the United States, have been targeted in attacks. Vital infrastructure sites across Iraq have also been targeted in attacks.
We are closely monitoring the situation and are committed to providing timely information and assistance to American citizens. Your safety remains our top priority. We are committed to sharing the latest available information to help you make informed decisions regarding your safety.
American citizens in Iraq are strongly encouraged to review their personal security situations. For many, departing Iraq as soon as possible when it is safe to do so is the best option. Those Americans who choose not to depart should exercise caution, maintain a low profile, and be prepared to shelter in place for extended periods if necessary. A stockpile of food, water, medications, and other essentials should be maintained.

Departure Options
The airspace is currently closed, and commercial flights from Iraq are not operating at this time. There are land routes to Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Most land border crossings are currently open, but they may close without prior notice. Travelers should anticipate long delays. Local ground transportation is currently operating. Americans should seriously consider departing via one of these land routes if they believe it is safe for them to do so. Airspace in neighboring countries may also close, and local entry/exit requirements remain in effect. The following information is intended to assist in decision-making and may change.
Jordan
• Commercial flights are currently operating from Queen Alia International Airport, though flight disruptions may continue. Flight information from Amman can be found here: https://qaiairport.com/en/arrivals-departures/
• Visas on arrival are not available at the land border crossing with Iraq. American citizens must apply for a visa through the Ministry of Interior’s Electronic Visa (eVisa) system. eVisa Application through the Ministry of Interior
Kuwait
• Commercial flights are not currently operating from Kuwait due to ongoing threats of missile and drone attacks. Land routes to Saudi Arabia are open, but borders may close or reopen without prior notice.
• American citizens can obtain a visa on arrival in Kuwait. Passports must be valid for at least six months to allow for entry.
