The United States has confirmed they were not involved in Israel’s sophisticated airstrikes against Iran early Friday morning.
However, according to unnamed officials, the U.S. military is helping Israel to respond to Iran’s retaliatory strikes, and is assisting in shooting down Iranian missiles that have rained down on Israel Friday night.
Stunning information has also been released explaining how Israeli intelligence agents operating secretly in Iran tricked all of Iran’s top military leaders to come together for a “meeting,” so they were all in one location, and could then be wiped out in one strategic blast.
The number of Iranian military commanders and scientists eliminated by the Israeli strikes is now known to be much greater than originally reported.
1 – UPDATE: US military helped stop Iranian missiles heading to Israel, officials say
From Reuters: The U.S. military has helped shoot down Iranian missiles that were headed toward Israel, two U.S. officials said on Friday.
One of the officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that for now the U.S. interceptions had been carried out by ground-based systems. The official said fighter jets and warships had not been used so far.
The United States has nearly 40,000 troops in the Middle East, including air defense systems, fighter aircraft and warships that can help bring down missiles.
Fox News producer Liz Friden confirmed, “The U.S. is assisting Israel to shoot down Iranian missiles, a senior U.S. official tells Fox News in a statement. “There are hundreds of thousands of American citizens and other American assets in Israel and the U.S. is working to protect them,” the official said.”
2 – STEALTH OPERATION: How Israel’s Mossad covertly infiltrated Iran to launch unprecedented attack: Fake meetings, secret drones, smuggled missiles
From the New York Post: Israeli spies smuggled missiles and secretly hid explosive drones deep inside Iran in a series of covert operations leading up to Friday’s deadly onslaught – before tricking military leaders into gathering for a meeting so they could be wiped out.
Intelligence agents with Mossad, Israel’s top spy agency, started infiltrating the heart of Iran several months back in order to pull off the surprise attack aimed at obliterating Iranian nuclear and military facilities, as well as a swath of top military commanders.
The spy agency planted the explosive drones inside Iran ahead of time as they laid the groundwork for the major strikes, according to Israeli security sources.
Agents also managed to smuggle precision weapons into central Iran so Israel could target Tehran’s defenses from within.
3 – Here are the top Iranian leaders killed in Israel’s precision airstrikes
From the New York Post: Israel’s massive airstrike attack left Iran’s military leadership in crisis as it killed several senior Iranian commanders — including the head of its Revolutionary Guard.
At least 20 senior Iranian commanders were killed in Israel’s strikes on Iran on Friday, sources said. Six nuclear scientists have also been confirmed killed in the strikes.
The strikes came after talks to reach a deal on Iran’s rapidly advancing nuclear program failed, raising Israeli fears that Iran would produce a nuclear weapon.
Below is a list of some of the Iranian officials confirmed eliminated so far:
- Gen. Hossein Salami, 65, the leader of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard. (Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has tapped Mohammad Pakpour to replace Salami as head of the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.)
- Brig. Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the head of the Revolutionary Guard’s missile program
- Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, who served as the chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces and was the country’s highest-ranking military official. (Khamenei on Friday named Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi to replace Bagheri.)
- Lt. Gen. Gholamali Rashid, deputy chief of the general staff of the armed forces of Iran
- Ali Shamkhani, a top military and nuclear advisor and close friend to Khomeini
