Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) has now won another term as Speaker of the House after two Republican holdouts finally caved and changed their vote to support him, giving Johnson the required 218 votes to win.
The three GOP holdouts were:
- Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) voted for Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.)
- Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) voted for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio)
- Rep. Keith Self (R-Tex.) voted for Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.)
Massie had already vowed he would absolutely not vote for Johnson, saying, “I’m a ‘hell-no!'”
However, after a period of discussion, Norman and Self then changed their votes to support Johnson.
The first vote had not yet been officially closed, so technically, Johnson won on the first vote, and a second voting process was not necessary.
