Trump’s nominee for administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration  announced in a social media post Tuesday evening that he has withdrawn his name from consideration, claiming he has more work to do in his current position as Hillsborough County Sheriff in Florida.

Unlike most of Trump’s nominees, conservatives had erupted when Trump nominated Sheriff Chad Chronister to serve as DEA administrator, due to multiple actions he took enforcing lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic, including arresting a pastor who had defied the lockdown orders.

In a statement posted to X, Chronister wrote, “To have been nominated by President-Elect @realDonaldTrump to serve as Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration is the honor of a lifetime. Over the past several days, as the gravity of this very important responsibility set in, I’ve concluded that I must respectfully withdraw from consideration.”

“There is more work to be done for the citizens of Hillsborough County and a lot of initiatives I am committed to fulfilling. I sincerely appreciate the nomination, outpouring of support by the American people, and look forward to continuing my service as Sheriff of Hillsborough County,” he added.

Many conservatives are responding to Chronister’s withdrawal, glad he is out of the picture.

“Now you can go back to arresting innocent pastors and boaters,” mocked X user End Wokeness.

Gunther Eagleman wrote, “Hang your head in shame. You decided to be a petty tyrant when standing by the American people was required. I hope you are forever shamed for what you have done. Good riddance.”

Political commentator Joseph Pino wrote, “It concerns me who may have pushed Sheriff Chad Chronister’s nomination to begin with and if they withheld this information from Trump. This wasn’t good.”
