President Donald Trump just dropped the hammer on Canada late Thursday night, and announced that all trade negotiations are hereby TERMINATED.
The president was furious over an ad the Ontario government released, that misrepresents a quote by former President Ronald Reagan.
The ad was released last week, on Oct. 16, by Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario.
Ford wrote, “It’s official: Ontario’s new advertising campaign in the U.S. has launched. Using every tool we have, we’ll never stop making the case against American tariffs on Canada. The way to prosperity is by working together. Watch our new ad.”
The ad shows scenes from Canada, with a voiceover by President Reagan, using snippets from a radio address he did back in April 1987, making it appear as if Reagan is on Canada’s side.

Just before 9pm ET Thursday night, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation posted the following statement:
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute learned that the Government of Ontario, Canada created an ad campaign using selective audio and video of President Ronald Reagan delivering his “Radio Address to the Nation on Free and Fair Trade,” dated April 25, 1987. The ad misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address, and the Government on Ontario did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is reviewing its legal options in this matter. We encourage you to watch President Reagan’s unedited video on our YouTube channel.

Less than two hours later, President Trump blasted out the following response:
The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs. The ad was for $75,000.
They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts. TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A.
Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT

Below is the unedited version of President Reagan’s remarks:
This comes after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney had just visited President Trump at the White House on October 7 in an effort to negotiate a trade deal.
While speaking to reporters during Carney’s visit, Trump had praised Carney as a nice man and a “world-class leader.”
During a humorous moment, one reporter asked why Trump hasn’t made a deal yet with Canada if he believes Carney is such a great man?
Trump quickly replied, “Because I want to be a great man too.”
The entire room, including Carney, burst out laughing.
Canadian reporter: “What’s holding things up? If he’s a great man and you want to do a deal with Canada, why aren’t you?”@POTUS: “Because I want to be a great man, too.”
