Multiple members of President-elect Donald Trump’s team have released statements, after Special Counsel Jack Smith filed requests on Monday, asking a judge to dismiss TWO federal cases he had brought against Trump – the ‘January 6 election interference’ case, and the ‘classified documents’ case.

The dismissal requests were made due to a long-standing Justice Department policy that prohibits the prosecution of a sitting president.

ABC News reported:

Nearly 16 months after a grand jury first indicted Trump over his alleged efforts to unlawfully overturn the results of the 2020 election, Smith asked U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan to throw out the case ahead of Trump’s impending inauguration, according to the motion filed Monday.

“That prohibition is categorical and does not turn on the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the Government’s proof, or the merits of the prosecution, which the Government stands fully behind,” Smith said in his motion, in which he said, “the country have never faced the circumstance here, where a federal indictment against a private citizen has been returned by a grand jury and a criminal prosecution is already underway when the defendant is elected President.”

Trump Communications Director Steven Cheung released the following statement:

“The American people re-elected President Trump with an overwhelming mandate to Make America Great Again. Today’s decision by the DOJ ends the unconstitutional federal cases against President Trump, and is a major victory for the rule of law.

“The American people and President Trump want an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system and we look forward to uniting our country.”

Vice president-elect Sen. JD Vance then added, “If Donald J. Trump had lost an election, he may very well have spent the rest of his life in prison. These prosecutions were always political. Now it’s time to ensure what happened to President Trump never happens in this country again.”

Vivek Ramaswamy, who Trump has appointed as co-director of the ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ (DOGE), wrote, “The prosecutions against Trump reeked of lawfare when they brought the charges. The fact they’re now dropping charges & avoiding sentencing simply confirms that it was really just politics all along. Pretty disgusting. Time to turn the page on this ugly chapter of history.”

Trump lawyer Alina Habba wrote, “Will Jack Smith reimburse taxpayers for the millions wasted on this bogus witch hunt he just dropped? Asking for America. 🤔”

The MAGA War Room re-posted a video of commentary by legal analyst Jonathan Turley.  WATCH:

In a prophetic post Sunday night, Trump adviser Dan Scavino had shared a photo of Trump along with the caption, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

Other conservatives have also commented on the news:

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) wrote, “The Jack Smith cases will be remembered as a dark chapter of weaponization. They never should have been brought. Our elections are decided by voters–not by fanatical, deranged liberal lawyers like Jack Smith.”

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) wrote, “Jack Smith dropping the charges against President Trump is further proof that this was a weaponized, election interference campaign. But thank goodness for the American people: President Trump beat the Left’s lawfare against him and will become our 47th President!”

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) wrote:

THIS AFTERNOON: Jack Smith has dismissed the…
❌Trump Election Interference Case
❌Trump Classified Documents Case

This lawfare was always unprecedented.
This lawfare was always wrong.
This lawfare was always politically-motivated.
And this lawfare MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) wrote: “Jack Smith drops the Jan 6 case against Pres Trump. It was always political lawfare. Just like Joe and Mika calling Trump “Hitler” and a “Nazi” for years and then after he wins the election, they go running over to Mar-a-lago trying to find a path to keep their dying show alive.

“Democrat voters have been brainwashed and gaslighted for years, trained to hate and fear Trump, all so they will donate and vote for Democrats to keep power, not for anything good for Americans. It’s all unraveling now.”

Sen. Mike Lee wrote, “All that has changed is that Trump won the election. And now Jack Smith is moving to dismiss. Isn’t that tantamount to an admission that this was just politicized lawfare from the beginning?”

Caitlyn Jenner wrote, “Jack Smith, your losing joke of an indictment didn’t have a chance in hell to begin with as SCOTUS made clear. Your motion to dismiss is long over due. I hope you’re investigated until the end of time when AG @PamBondi takes over. Thankful to the voter mandating lawfare end!”

Meanwhile, The Federalist co-founder and CEO Sean Davis delivered a sobering warning:

People are wrongly celebrating this as a victory and a defeat of lawfare. But we only narrowly escaped, and perhaps only temporarily, the nation-ending consequences of the Democrat declaration of war against the rule of law. People’s lives were ruined. Families were bankrupted.

Had the election gone the other way, Pandora’s Box would never have closed. And when, not if, Democrats win again, they’re doing to double-down on the lawfare…unless there are consequences.

People need to go to prison for what they attempted to do to this country. Jack Smith should be forced into exile. Every single corrupt attorney involved in the criminal weaponization of our legal system should be permanently disbarred and banned from government employment.

So the posture right now should be a steely resolve to hold accountable everyone involved with these abominations. Examples need to be made to ensure this never happens again. If everyone is content to just high-five each other, all they’re doing is buying a temporary peace and putting a down payment on a much more devastating war in the future. Never again.

Everyone involved in this insanity must pay an exorbitant price if we want to make sure it never happens again.
