President-elect Donald Trump announced former Democratic congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard as his choice for Director of National Intelligence.

Gabbard, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard, will lead the office responsible for coordinating global intelligence. Trump praised her two decades of service and highlighted her commitment to America’s freedoms. Trump also stated that former 2020 Democratic candidate Tulsi Gabbard has “broad support” across parties and is now “a proud Republican” after leaving the Democratic Party.

However, Gabbard may face Senate scrutiny over past mentions of U.S.-funded biolabs in Ukraine. Republican Senator Mitt Romney previously condemned these remarks as “treasonous lies.”

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) Gabbard thanked Trump “for the opportunity to serve as a member of your cabinet to defend the safety, security and freedom of the American people.”

“I look forward to getting to work,” she added.

DML tweeted and responded to the selection of Gabbard to lead National Intelligence:
