Former President Donald Trump has released a statement on social media, after surviving an assassination attempt while he was speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania Saturday evening.

The rally had just gotten underway and Trump was speaking from the stage, when shots rang out and Trump suddenly grabbed his ear and dived to the floor.

Secret Service agents quickly rushed to the stage to attend to Trump, and get him off the stage. He was seen being ushered away, with blood on his ear and on his face.

Reports have been conflicted about the injuries of others, but, based on the last report, at least one rally attendee was killed and two others are seriously injured.

In a statement posted to his Truth Social account, Trump wrote:

I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.

It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Officials have announced that the shooter is also deceased.  Based on reports from witnesses and video footage, the shooter was on the roof of a nearby building.

Fox News producer Jake Gibson announced, “Federal law enforcement source says the shooter is dead and that an “AR-style” rifle was recovered at the scene.”

The Secret Service just released the following statement:

“During former President Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on the evenign of July 13th at approximately 6:15 p.m., a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue. US Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased. US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and the former president is safe and being evaluated. One spectator was killed, two spectators were critically injured. The incident is currently under investigation and the Secret Service has formally notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

Reactions are pouring in on social media, including from Trump’s oldest children.

Donald Trump Jr. posted a photo of his father being rushed away by Secret Service agents, and wrote, “He’ll never stop fighting to Save America 🇺🇸.”

Eric Trump posted the same photo and wrote, “This is the fighter America needs!”

Ivanka Trump wrote: Thank you for your love and prayers for my father and for the other victims of today’s senseless violence in Butler, Pennsylvania. I am grateful to the Secret Service and all the other law enforcement officers for their quick and decisive actions today. I continue to pray for our country. I love you Dad, today and always.”

Former Attorney General Bill Barr released the following statement: “The Democrats have to stop their grossly irresponsible talk about Trump being an existential threat to democracy. He is not.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell also posted a statement on social media: “Tonight, all Americans are grateful that President Trump appears to be fine after a despicable attack on a peaceful rally. Violence has no place in our politics. We appreciate the swift work of the Secret Service and other law enforcement.”

I have been briefed by law enforcement and am continuing to monitor the developments. This horrific act of political violence at a peaceful campaign rally has no place in this country and should be unanimously and forcefully condemned.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wrote, “My thoughts and prayers are with former President Trump. I am thankful for the decisive law enforcement response. America is a democracy. Political violence of any kind is never acceptable.”

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), who was nearly killed at a congressional baseball shooting in 2017, wrote, “For weeks Democrat leaders have been fueling ludicrous hysteria that Donald Trump winning re-election would be the end of democracy in America. Clearly we’ve seen far left lunatics act on violent rhetoric in the past. This incendiary rhetoric must stop.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement: “As one whose family has been the victim of political violence, I know firsthand that political violence of any kind has no place in our society. I thank God that former President Trump is safe. As we learn more details about this horrifying incident, let us pray that all those in attendance at the former President’s rally today are unharmed.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R – Tex.) wrote, “This is horrific & wrong & evil. Thank God he appears not to be seriously injured. Heidi & I are lifting President Trump up in prayer right now. #PrayingForTrump.”

The following statement was posted on Joe Biden’s social media account:

I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.
