While hosting a signing ceremony in the Oval Office Wednesday afternoon, President Donald Trump said he has been told by Iranian officials that they have stopped killing the protesters.
According to human rights groups, the Islamic government in Iran has killed thousands of protesters over the past several days.
It was previously reported that Iran intended to publicly hang one protester, 26-year-old Erfan Soltani.
Trump said, “We were told that the killing in Iran is stopping… and there’s no plans for executions — an execution or executions. I’ve been told that on good authority. We’ll find out about it.”
Trump casually delivered the message, in what could be interpreted as a strategic ploy to throw Iran off guard. He did not say whether he believed the killings have actually stopped.

No one responding on social media appears to believe the claim that Iran has stopped the killings.
“Translation: the strike is imminent,” one X user surmised.
“President Trump is too smart to be played by the terroristic regime like this. The response must be coming soon,” another X user suggested.
Prominent X user Clandestine wrote, “Trump claims that the killing has stopped in Iran for the time being and there will be no executions. Trump is making it sound like military intervention will not be necessary. Or this is potentially a feint, and Trump is making it seem like he has no plans to strike, which would then be the perfect time to strike. Sounds like something Trump would do. The objective is always diplomacy before military intervention, so hopefully this issue can resolve itself without Trump getting directly involved, but either way, the Ayatollah regime will fall.”

Journalist Saeid Jafari wrote, “Trump says that he’s been told the killings in Iran have stopped and that no one is being executed either. But his track record, his hand gestures, his gaze, his hands, and all his mannerisms are such that I feel like he’s bluffing and wants to catch the other side off guard. Most likely, an attack will happen in a few hours.”
