BREAKING: Trump announces progress on Greenland proposal

1

Following his address to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland Wednesday morning, President Trump met with other world leaders, including NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Trump then announced in a post on Truth Social that he and Rutte have “former the framework of a future deal” regarding his plan for the United States to take over Greenland.

As a result of the deal, Trump said he will hold off on the tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1.

In his address to the WEF earlier, Trump laid out the case for why he believes it is critical that the U.S. own Greenland, arguing that it is necessary not only for U.S. interests, but for Europe’s best interest as well.

Trump made it clear he has no plans to use military action to take over Greenland, noting that he would rather reach a deal instead. “We want a piece of ice for world protection…  So, they have a choice. You can say yes, and we will be very appreciative. Or you can say no, and we will remember,” Trump stated.

President Trump’s announcement reads:

Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations.

Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st. Additional discussions are being held concerning The Golden Dome as it pertains to Greenland. Further information will be made available as discussions progress.

Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and various others, as needed, will be responsible for the negotiations — They will report directly to me. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Rutte also said it’s only thanks to President Trump that our European partners have stepped up and reached the two-percent defense spending target.
