BREAKING: Trump announces his pick for chairman of the FCC

From Politico: President-elect Donald Trump has named conservative Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr to chair the agency, he announced on Sunday night.

“Commissioner Carr is a warrior for Free Speech, and has fought against the regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans’ Freedoms, and held back our Economy,” Trump said in a statement. “He will end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America’s Job Creators and Innovators, and ensure that the FCC delivers for rural America.”

Carr can immediately assume control once Trump enters office in January since he is already on the commission. Carr was unanimously confirmed to a new five-year term last year and has served as a commissioner since 2017.

“Commissioner Carr currently serves as the senior Republican on the FCC. Before that, he was the FCC’s General Counsel. I first nominated Commissioner Carr to the FCC in 2017, and he has been confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate three times. His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now be designating him as permanent Chairman,” Trump announced.

Carr reacted to the appointment, writing on X, “Thank you, President Trump! I am humbled and honored to serve as Chairman of the FCC. Now we get to work. 🇺🇸”

Last week Carr blasted off a letter to the CEOs of Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft over the roles they have played in censoring Americans, in violation of their free speech rights.

In particular, Carr demanded information from the four Big Tech companies about their work with the far-left self-appointed ‘misinformation’ watchdog, NewsGuard, which “purports to rate the credibility of news and information outlets and tells readers and advertisers which outlets they can trust.”

NewsGuard most commonly gives a very poor rating to conservative news outlets, and a higher rating to liberal outlets, thus seeking to strangle out conservative media.

Carr posted the letter and wrote on X, “Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft & others have played central roles in the censorship cartel. The Orwellian named NewsGuard along with “fact checking” groups & ad agencies helped enforce one-sided narratives. The censorship cartel must be dismantled.”

“Americans have lived through an unprecedented surge in censorship. Big Tech silenced people simply for exercising their 1A rights. And they worked with marketing, ad, & “fact checkers” to punish free speech outlets. This censorship cartel must be dismantled and destroyed. Now,” Carr announced.
