From Daily Mail: Three Americans have died after a convoy of US and Syrian soldiers came under fire while engaging in an anti-ISIS mission in the country.
A Pentagon spokesman confirmed the deaths on Saturday saying two soldiers and one civilian US interpreter were gunned down in Palmyra, with three others wounded.
The U.S. has hundreds of troops deployed in eastern Syria as part of a coalition fighting the Islamic State group.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a post on X:
“Today in Palmyra, Syria, two United States Army soldiers and one civilian U.S. interpreter were killed, and three were wounded.
“The attack occurred as the soldiers were conducting a key leader engagement.
“Their mission was in support of on-going counter-ISIS/counter-terrorism operations in the region.
‘”The soldiers’ names, as well as identifying information about their units, are being withheld until 24 hours after the next of kin notification. This attack is currently under active investigation.”

U.S. Central Command said the attack was the “result of an ambush by a lone ISIS gunman in Syria.”
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the person responsible for the attack has already been found and killed.
“The savage who perpetrated this attack was killed by partner forces,” Hegseth wrote on X.
“Let it be known, if you target Americans — anywhere in the world — you will spend the rest of your brief, anxious life knowing the United States will hunt you, find you, and ruthlessly kill you,” he added.
