From USA Today: The Supreme Court will allow President Donald Trump’s ban on transgender people serving in the military to take effect while court challenges continue.
In a win for the president’s efforts to curb rights for transgender people, the court on Tuesday agreed to the administration’s request for help after lower courts paused the ban.
The court’s three liberal members − Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson − said they would have rejected the request.
The Justice Department said the courts improperly second-guessed the Pentagon’s assessments of the risks of transgender servicemembers rather than giving the military the “substantial deference” its judgments are owed.

SCOTUSblog reported: The Supreme Court agrees to pause a lower court order that would block the Department of Defense from enforcing its policy to disqualify members of the military who have “gender dysphoria.”
In March, U.S. District Judge Benjamin Settle had blocked the policy, calling it a “de facto blanket prohibition on transgender service.”

Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson would deny the Trump administration’s application. There was no further comment on their decision.
