BREAKING: Shooting at Naval Academy in Annapolis, possible victims

The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis went into lockdown Thursday after reports that a dismissed midshipman returned with a weapon and opened fire.

Gunfire was heard inside Bancroft Hall, the dorm housing 1,600 midshipmen, with the suspect reportedly posing as a military policeman while knocking on doors. Fox News reported that video footage showed a person being moved from an ambulance to a medevac helicopter on campus.

Lt. Naweed Lemar said the academy was working with local police to address the threat near Bancroft Hall, the world’s largest college dormitory with over 1,600 rooms housing midshipmen.

“The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution,” he said. “This is a developing situation and we will provide updates as they become available.”

A Defense Department official confirmed awareness of the campus lockdown, saying they are “monitoring the situation with the Navy” and that Secretary Hegseth has been briefed.
