This is a developing story… check back for updates.

The gunman who opened fire at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia Thursday morning, killing an ROTC class instructor and wounding two other people, has now been identified as Mohamed Jalloh, a former National Guard member who was previously convicted of supporting ISIS.

At a press conference Thursday afternoon, the FBI said the shooter was heard yelling “Allahu Akbar” during the attack.

Multiple students in the classroom then tackled Jalloh and rendered him “no longer alive,” the FBI said, adding that Jalloh was not shot.

From Fox News: In 2017, Jalloh, a former member of the Virginia National Guard, was sentenced to 11 years in prison plus five years supervised release for attempting to provide material support to ISIS, according to the Department of Justice. He was released from jail in Dec. 2024.

He was originally arrested on July 3, 2016, after authorities said he tried to help procure weapons for what he believed would be an ISIS-inspired attack on U.S. soil and separately attempted to send money to support ISIS, according to the criminal complaint.

According to the Justice Department, Jalloh was compelled to leave the U.S. military after he began listening to the online lectures of Al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Aulaqi.

Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin announced:

Multiple federal sources confirm to @FoxNews that the suspected ODU shooter is Mohamed Jalloh, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Sierra Leone who was convicted in 2017 of providing support to ISIS. He was released in December 2024. Here’s what DOJ said after his arrest in 2016:

“Jalloh praised the gunman who killed five U.S. military members in a terrorist attack in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in July 2015, and stated that he had been thinking about conducting an attack similar to the November 2009 attack at Ft. Hood, Texas.”

FBI Director Kash Patel announced:

Earlier today, an armed individual opened fire at Old Dominion University, leaving one person dead and two others wounded. The shooter is now deceased thanks to a group of brave students who stepped in and subdued him – actions that undoubtedly saved lives along with the quick response of law enforcement.

The FBI is now investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism. Our Joint Terrorism Task Force is fully engaged, embedded with local authorities, and providing all resources necessary in the investigation. In the meantime, please pray for the victims, their families, and the ODU community.

WTKR reported that Jalloh was sentenced in 2017 to 11 years in prison for providing support to ISIS, but, according to his Federal Bureau of Prisons record, he was released early in December 2024.  The report further states:

Around 10:43 a.m., police received calls about an active-shooter on ODU’s campus. CBS News reports that Jalloh was walking around Constant Hall and asked someone if he arrived at an ROTC class. Jalloh then opened fire after the person said it was. This resulted in the class instructor being fatally injured, according to CBS News.

ODU officials say two people were injured as a result, they were both initially reported to be in critical condition. During the press conference, officials said another victim arrived at a different hospital, their condition is not currently known.

In addition to the class instructor being killed by Jalloh, two others were shot and wounded. One has reportedly been treated and released, while the other victim remains in critical condition at the hospital.

Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll posted a statement on X, confirming that two U.S. Army personnel were injured.

Jalloh is now deceased, after he opened fire at the Old Dominion University in Norfolk Thursday morning.
