From Today.com: Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been reported missing in Arizona and her home is being considered an a crime scene, police said.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the night of Jan. 31 outside her home in Tucson, according to a missing persons flyer. She was reported missing at noon on Feb. 1 and aspects of the scene at her home prompted “grave concern,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said.

The sheriff provided an update in a news conference on Feb. 2 in which he said Nancy Guthrie’s home is being considered a crime scene.

Sheriff Nanos said the search and rescue teams, who were out all night looking for Guthrie, have all been called in, and the search operation has been shut down for now. He said homicide detectives have been called to the scene.

When asked what they found at her home that made them consider it a “crime scene,” Nanos said it would be inappropriate at this time to discuss that.

The sheriff emphasized that Guthrie is of sound mind and “sharp,” and said this is not a case of someone with dementia just wondering off.

He also said she has physical challenges, could not walk 50 yards on her own, and requires medication that, if not received within 24 hours, it could be fatal.

“She is very limited in her mobility, we know she didn’t just walk out of there, that we know,” Nanos explained at the press conference Monday morning, adding, “There were other things at the scene that indicate that she did not leave on her own.”

Sheriff Nanos explained that Guthrie’s family had dropped her off at home Saturday evening around 9:30 p.m.  Sunday morning, a church-goer called the family to let them know Guthrie hadn’t shown up for services that morning. Family members went to her home, then called the police.
