The U.S. Senate voted Wednesday morning to confirm President Trump’s nominee, Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI).

The Senate was planning to hold the vote late Tuesday night, but a snowstorm caused the vote to be delayed until Wednesday morning.

She was confirmed in a 52-48 vote, mostly along party lines. One lone Republican, former GOP leader Mitch McConnell, voted “no” on Gabbard’s confirmation.

Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, both considered “swing votes,” announced this week that that would vote in favor of Gabbard.

Gabbard, 43, a former Democrat, represented Hawaii in the U.S. Congress from 2013 to 2021.  She was also the vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2013 to 2016, and was a candidate in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary in 2020.

Gabbard left the Democrat Party in 2022 and switched to Independent. She then flipped to the Republican Party in 2024.  Over the last few years, she has campaigned to help multiple Republicans, as well as supporting President Trump in his presidential campaign.

Currently a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, Gabbard has also served with the Hawaii Army National Guard, and was deployed to Iraq from 2004 to 2005, and was stationed in Kuwait from 2008 to 2009.

Conservatives are celebrating Gabbard’s confirmation on social media:
