BREAKING: Pritzker sues Trump to block National Guard action in Illinois

From Fox News: Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson filed a lawsuit Monday to block the Trump administration from deploying hundreds of National Guard troops from Illinois and Texas in Chicago and surrounding cities.

The legal challenge is the latest clash between Democratic-led states and the Trump administration over President Donald Trump’s so-called “federalization” of law enforcement, with governors in California, Oregon and others pursuing similar lawsuits.

State and city leaders are seeking both an emergency restraining order to immediately head off Trump’s attempts to deploy the National Guard troops in the state, and longer-term injunctive relief.

The lawsuit comes one week after Pritzker and other state and local leaders held a press conference to share news of Trump’s request to authorize the National Guard troops for the stated purpose of “protecting ICE personnel and facilities.” It’s unclear whether the guard troops in question will be Illinois National Guard troops, or National Guard members from nearby states.

Pritzker blasted out a series of posts on X Sunday night, raging against the deployment of the troops. He wrote:

This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.

We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion. It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will now involve sending in another state’s military troops.

I call on Governor Abbott to immediately withdraw any support for this decision and refuse to coordinate. There is no reason a President should send military troops into a sovereign state without their knowledge, consent, or cooperation.

The brave men and women who serve in our national guards must not be used as political props. This is a moment where every American must speak up and help stop this madness.

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul declared in an MSNBC interview Sunday that he would be filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration within 24 hours.

“Americans should not live under the threat of military occupation, regardless of where they reside. I’m committed to upholding the Constitution and defending the rule of law, and am seeking an order to stop unlawful National Guard deployment in Illinois,” Raoul declared Monday morning, announcing the lawsuit.

Gov. Pritzker wrote, “Illinois is taking the Trump Administration to court for their unlawful and unconstitutional deployment of military troops to our state. Thank you @ILAttyGeneral Raoul for helping defend the rule of law.”

Meanwhile, DMLNewsApp founder and podcast host Dennis Michael Lynch mocked Pritzker, writing, “When are you going to address the rampant gun violence committed in your biggest city by thugs and gangs? Next time you run for office, don’t; run on a treadmill instead.”
