From Fox News: Interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro, announced murder charges against 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez, who is accused of killing two Israeli embassy workers in cold blood on Wednesday night, in the name of a “free Palestine.”

Rodriguez, a resident of Chicago, Illinois, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the murders of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim. Lischinsky, Pirro said, is a foreign official and official guest of the U.S. He was also in the U.S. on official business for Israel.

Rodriguez was also charged with felony firearms charges.

“Two families now are left to grieve for dreams that will never be realized, and as I speak right now, there is an individual who is being presented in court and charged with various crimes,” Pirro said. “What I want to be clear about today, since this is the first time you’re hearing from me, is that this is a horrific crime and these crimes are not going to be tolerated by me and by this office.

“A young couple at the beginning of their life’s journey about to be engaged in another country, had their bodies removed in the cold of the night, in a foreign city, in a body bag,” she added. “We are not going to tolerate that anymore.”

In a statement posted on X Thursday afternoon, Pirro wrote, “Our community is reeling. Because of one person’s actions, two families are left to grieve for dreams that will never be realized. Violence of any kind is unacceptable. Senseless acts that take innocent lives are intolerable. We will hold accountable anyone who inflicts harm on our families, our neighbors, the citizens of our nation, or the visitors to our great capital city. We are united in that purpose, and we hold strong against those whose reckless actions claim as victim any part of our community.”

The two slain staffers were a young couple about to become engaged. Lischinsky was a researcher in the political department of the Israeli Embassy, and Milgrim organized U.S. missions to Israel, ABC News has reported.

Yaron Lischinsky, 30, was a devout Christian whose father was Jewish and mother was Christian. Sarah Lynn Milgrim, 26, from Overland Park, Kansas, was Jewish.  The couple were  attending a “Young Diplomats Reception” hosted by the American Jewish Committee at the Capital Jewish Museum Wednesday night.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez of Chicago, admitted he shot and killed the couple and defiantly yelled, “Free, free Palestine!” as he was being arrested.

More from the Washington Post:

Surveillance video from the area shows the gunman walking past Lischinsky and Milgrim, then turning and shooting them in the back, then reloading his gun and shooting them again, according to the affidavit. The police recovered 21 9mm casings at the scene, the affidavit states.

Rodriguez was then interviewed by police detectives, where he waived his Miranda rights and expressed admiration for an Air Force soldier who set himself on fire last year to protest the war in Gaza, the affidavit states. An online document apparently written by Rodriguez also expressed respect for the soldier.
