Joe Biden officially announced Sunday that he is suspending his re-election bid and endorsing Kamala Harris, but it still remains uncertain who the Democrats will now choose as their presidential nominee.

According to multiple media sources, outgoing Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who left the Democrat Party in May and switched to Independent, is considering throwing his own hat in the ring.

Manchin, 76, has described himself as a “centrist, moderate, conservative Democra.” He was governor of West Virginia from 2005 to 2010, when he was then elected to the U.S. Senate. His term in the Senate ends in January, and he is not seeking re-election.

In a CNN interview earlier on Sunday, Manchin told host Jake Tapper that it was time for Biden to “pass the torch to a new generation.”

In that interview, Manchin said he would NOT run if Biden drops out, claiming he wants to support a new generation.

Now it appears Manchin has changed his mind.

After Biden announced he is withdrawing from the 2024 race, Tapper announced on social media, “Sources close to Sen Joe Manchin, independent of WV, say he’s considering re-registering as a Democrat and throwing his hat into the ring.”

Fox News host Bret Baier then announced, “Independent Senator Joe Manchin IS considering re-registering as a Democrat and throwing his hat into the ring for President -“Even just to have the discussion of bringing the party back to the center”. He’ll be an exclusive guest on @SpecialReport tomorrow night. (H/t @jaketapper who reported this first).”

MSNBC’s Sam Stein also wrote, “Confirmed: Manchin is considering re-registering as a Democrat to run against Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination.”
