BREAKING: Netanyahu orders immediate ‘powerful’ strikes on Gaza

From NBC News: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the country’s military to launch “powerful” airstrikes on Gaza on Tuesday, imperiling the fragile U.S.-brokered ceasefire.

“Following security consultations, Prime Minister Netanyahu instructed the military echelon to carry out powerful strikes in the Gaza Strip immediately,” his office said in a statement.

It was not immediately clear if the strikes had been launched.

Earlier, Netanyahu said that the remains of a hostage returned by Hamas overnight were body parts of another hostage who was recovered in Gaza by Israeli troops almost two years ago.

A post from Netanyahu’s office announced:

Following the completion of the identification process, it was found that last night, remains belonging to fallen hostage Ofir Tzarfati – of blessed memory, who was returned from the Gaza Strip in a military operation about 2 years ago – were returned. His family was notified.

This constitutes a clear violation of the agreement by the Hamas terrorist organization. Prime Minister Netanyahu will hold a security discussion with the heads of the security establishment to discuss Israel’s steps in response to the violations.

The IDF posted a video earlier Tuesday and explained:

Hamas are lying about our hostages and here’s the proof: Yesterday, Hamas terrorists were filmed removing body remains from a prepared structure and re-burying them nearby, before summoning Red Cross representatives to stage a false “discovery” for photographers.

Despite claiming difficulty locating the bodies of deceased hostages, Hamas continues to hold and manipulate the remains it refuses to release under the agreement.

Hamas’ claims of lacking engineering equipment are baseless, such tools are unnecessary for the transfer of remains and do not prevent the return of the deceased hostages.

However, the airstrike order does not appear to be about the bodies.

Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst explained, “Hamas violated the ceasefire by attacking IDF soldiers in Rafah, I’m told by an Israeli military official.”

Netanyahu’s office announced at 12:20 ET Tuesday, “Following security consultations, Prime Minister Netanyahu has directed the military to immediately carry out forceful strikes in the Gaza Strip.”

The IDF also announced on X Tuesday, “Following a situational assessment and the approval of the Minister of Defense Israel Katz, it was decided to lift the IDF restrictions in the Israeli communities near Gaza as of today.”
