BREAKING: Multiple people injured at Kentucky University shooting

Officials are reporting multiple people have been injured during a shooting at Kentucky State University Tuesday afternoon.

A suspect is in custody, but the campus is still on lockdown, according to the Frankfort Police Department.

Police released the following statement on Facebook Tuesday afternoon:

Tuesday, December 9, 3:35PM: Frankfort Police Department responded to an incident on KSU’s campus Tuesday afternoon, regarding an active aggressor.

Frankfort Police Department, in partnership with KSU Campus Police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office have secured the campus and have a suspect in custody.

At this time, KSU campus is on lockdown until further notice. The department and university will release more details as they become available.

One local resident commenting on the police department’s post wrote, “I stopped on Main Street briefly and just left. Not good at all. There were unfortunately people injured. I personally saw four ambulances take on injured and leave before I left. Please check in on your loved ones.”

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshears announced in a post on X, “We are aware of a reported shooting at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. At this time, we are aware of some injuries. We will share more information as available. Law enforcement are on scene, and a suspect has been arrested. Let’s pray for all those affected.”

According to CBS42, two people were injured in the shooting.  Their conditions are unknown.
