From the Associated Press: A fast-moving fire in the Hollywood Hills erupted Wednesday night as more evacuations were ordered for Los Angeles residents and fire crews battled three other major blazes that killed at least five people.
The Sunset Fire was burning near the Hollywood Bowl and other iconic landmarks in the Hollywood Hills.
Winds were easing and firefighters from across the state were relieving exhausted crews, but the danger was far from over. As officials provided an update on the fires, a new blaze broke out in the Hollywood Hills, and evacuation orders were also extended to Santa Monica.
More than 1,000 structures, mostly homes, have been destroyed, and more than 130,000 people are under evacuation orders in the metropolitan area, from the Pacific Coast inland to Pasadena, a number that continues to shift as new fires erupt.
Bob Bollman, a retired firefighter with the New York City Fire Department, posted a video of the huge inferno on Facebook.
“Pray for LA tonight. Fire just broke out in West Hollywood. We were just leaving Beverly Hills after a day of sightseeing and I made a turn and there was the fire right in front of us,” he wrote.
Emmanuel Acho, a sports analyst and former NFL player, also posted a video and wrote, “Please pray for LA— the Hollywood Hills are now on fire. I just took this video as I am about to evacuate my house.”

I asked him what he thought of it in the moment, “Arson. There’s no power lines up there. Someone started it intentionally.””

Journalist Collin Rugg wrote: “The Hollywood area is completely gridlocked as residents rush to evacuate as the fire in the Hollywood Hills approaches. An immediate evacuation order has been issued for residents on Laurel Canyon Blvd to the west, Hollywood Blvd to the south, Cahuenga Blvd/101 Fwy/Highland Ave. to the east and Mulholland Drive to the north. People are evacuating… there’s not enough room for all these cars to go.”
