From CBS News: Ten people were killed and dozens injured early Wednesday when a man intentionally drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans’ French Quarter as revelers were celebrating the new year, officials said. New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said the man drove around barricades and hurtled down Bourbon Street in “very intentional behavior” before opening fire on officers.

The driver died after exchanging gunfire with responding police officers, the FBI said. The suspect was struck by police fire and declared dead at the scene, the New Orleans Police Department said.

“This man was trying to run over as many people as he could,” said Kirkpatrick, adding that two police officers were hit by gunfire but were in a stable condition. A long gun was recovered from the scene, law enforcement sources told CBS News.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell referred to it as a likely “terrorist attack,” and the FBI said in a news release that they are investigating it “as an act of terrorism.”

The man reportedly plowed his white truck into the crowd at a “high speed,” and then started firing a gun from inside the vehicle.  The truck reportedly had a Texas license plate.

At least 35 people are hospitalized with injuries, and 10 people so are are confirmed deceased.

Authorities also said possible explosive devices were found in the area, but it was still unclear whether it is related to the vehicle attack.

This is a developing story….

The FBI of New Orleans released a statement, confirming they are investigating this as an act of terrorism.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) posted footage from the scene:

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) released the following statement: “The vicious attack on innocent people celebrating the New Year in New Orleans early this morning was an act of pure evil, and justice must be swift for anyone who was involved. Please join us in praying for the victims, their families, and the first responders and investigators on the scene.”

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) wrote, “Please join me in praying for the victims and their families, as well as our first responders, in the wake of this horrific act of violence on Bourbon Street.”

One video is going viral of the exact moment a group of police officers were made aware of the attack, and ran toward the scene.

One X user who had been in the area earlier shared a photo online that she took prior to the attack, just to show what the area looks like.
