The Las Vegas Police Department held a press conference Wednesday evening and shared more details about the Cybertruck explosion that occurred in front of the Trump International Hotel around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The incident is now being investigated as a terror attack.
The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck pulled up in front of the hotel, near the front doors, and then exploded in a massive inferno about 15 seconds later.
The driver of the truck was killed, and the body is still in the truck as of Wednesday evening, law enforcement said.
During the press conference, police revealed that the bed of the truck was loaded with gasoline and other fuel canisters, along with “large firework mortars,” turning the vehicle into one huge bomb on wheels.
A video was shown of the back of the truck, allowing everyone to see the burnt-out remains of the bomb materials.

Police credited the lack of damage to the Trump Hotel to the strength of the Cybertruck, as it remained mostly intact.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill pointed out that since the vehicle used in the attack was a Tesla Cybertruck, the exterior of the truck was still completely intact, and therefore limited the severity of the attack.
Due to the strong walls of the truck, he noted that most of the blast went up into the air, instead of outward.
The truck was parked right in front of the hotel, but the blast did not even break the glass doors of the hotel.
McMahill said he cannot yet confirm the name of the driver.
He said the truck was rented in Colorado, and arrived in Las Vegas about 7:30 Friday morning. It drove up and down Las Vegas Boulevard before then pulling into the Trump hotel.
Seven other individuals standing outside the hotel received minor injuries in the blast, and were treated at the hospital.

Tesla owner Elon Musk commented after the press conference, “The evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack. Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards. Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken.”
