In an emotional sentencing Wednesday morning, a judge announced that the monster who slaughtered four innocent college students nearly three years ago will now stay behind bars until he dies.
As family members and friends fought back tears and gave their impact statements, Kohberger sat emotionless, simply staring at them.
On the night of November 13, 2022, Bryan Kohberger entered the home in Moscow, Idaho where the university students were living, and stabbed them to death in their beds.
The students slain were Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin.
After the family impact statements concluded, Judge Steven Hippler asked Kohberger if he would like to speak and he arrogantly said, “I respectfully decline.”
Judge Hippler then began his sentencing statement, and choked up as his own emotions overtook him at times. He called Kohberger a ‘baseless coward’ and said, “The person that slithered through that sliding door at 1122 King Road now stands before the world and court unmasked.”
Hippler handed down the sentence as follows:
Count 1 – Burglary: 10 years, plus a $10,000 fine
Count 2 – Murder of Madison Mogen: Life in prison, $50,000 fine, plus $5,000 civil penalty
Count 3 – Murder of Kaylee Goncalves: Life in prison, $50,000 fine, plus $5,000 civil penalty
Count 4 – Murder of Xana Kernodle: Life in prison, $50,000 fine, plus $5,000 civil penalty
Count 5 – Murder of Ethan Chapin: Life in prison, $50,000 fine, plus $5,000 civil penalty
Sentences will run consecutively, one after the other, and Kohberger will remain in prison until he dies, the judge declared.
